D.C. Mayor to Detail New Approach to Job Training

District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser is launching a new approach to job training for unemployed city residents.

City officials are set to detail a new program they say will streamline some aspects of the city's numerous job-training efforts. Currently, money spent on job training in the District is spread out over more than a dozen agencies.

The new program is known as the D.C. Career Academy. Bowser's office says it will provide training to the city's unemployed in high-demand fields such as information technology and specialized maintenance. Participants will be placed in apprenticeship programs that allow them to earn money while they learn new skills.

Bowser and other officials will discuss the program at a news conference Friday. The Democratic mayor took office in January.
