DC Mayoral Candidates Face Fundraising Deadline

Candidates for mayor of Washington are facing their latest fundraising deadline.

The reports due by midnight Friday will be the first test of Mayor Vincent Gray's financial strength since he entered the race in December. The previous reports were due just days after the mayor entered the race, and he hadn't raised any money yet.

Gray's campaign said in an email to supporters Thursday that it will be outspent.

D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans has already raised more than $1 million, and Councilmember Muriel Bowser had raised $920,000 as of mid-December. Councilmembers Vincent Orange and Tommy Wells are also challenging Gray in the April Democratic primary, along with former State Department official Reta Lewis and restaurateur Andy Shallal. Independent Councilmember David Catania is considering a bid in the general election.
