Even the most powerful man in local D.C. politics isn't immune to small-time crime in the District.
D.C. Mayor-elect Vincent Gray had his credit card stolen after leaving his wallet on the counter at the CVS on Naylor Road in southeast Washington on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Washington Examiner.
Police said surveillance video showed Tamika Garris, a 22-year-old store clerk, allegedly picking up the wallet and using his credit card to buy cigarettes and cigars for $13 at CVS, and then buying a $25 bottle of rum at a liquor store.
Garris's sister told NBC Washington's Pat Collins that Garris did it because she wasn't able to have a traditional Thanksgiving holiday. The sister said she told Garris to return the card and that Garris agreed to, but police were at their door before she had a chance.
Prosecutors charged the clerk with credit card fraud.
