D.C. Man Pleads Guilty to Logan Circle Restaurant Patio Robbery

Suspect arrested Saturday after tips from public

A District of Columbia man pleaded guilty to robbing two men who were eating on the patio outside Pizzoli's Pizzeria in Logan Circle.

James Edward Wade, 30, approached the victims about 9:20 p.m. May 17.

“He comes up to us at first and says, ‘Hey, do you guys have any money?’” one of the victims told News4. “And I made eye contact with him. I didn’t answer him at first. I was like, ‘Oh, man, this isn’t good. This guy isn’t just looking for some change.’ And my buddy was like, ‘No, we don’t have any money.'"

The man then pulled out a gun. The victims turned over property, and Wade fled.

Wade got away with $200, but he dropped an iPhone on the ground when he saw police in the area, and the victims were able to retrieve it.

Police posted a video of the robbery from the restaurant's surveillance camera on YouTube and said Wade's arrest in June followed numerous tips from the public.

Wade's attorney did not immediately respond to a telephone message left Saturday requesting comment.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 7.
