DC Lawmakers Vote to Raise Smokeless Tobacco Age to 21

Anyone age 18 to 20 who uses smokeless tobacco may soon find that they can't buy it in D.C.

The D.C. Council voted Tuesday to raise the minimum age for smokeless tobacco sales from 18 to 21.

Adults age 18 and older can buy cigarettes now.

Mayor Muriel Bowser would need to approve the bill for it to become law.

The Council will consider another bill that would ban smokeless tobacco at ballparks and all public places where cigarette smoking is banned.
