At 5:20 a.m. that Saturday, law enforcement discovered a deceased individual on the 2600 block of 11th Street NW.

Investigators identified the decedent as Gaurav Gopolan, 35, of Northwest D.C.  Gopolan was dressed in women's clothing when he was discovered.

Police have yet to determine the cause of Gopolan's death. Sources tell News4 he died of internal bleeding, but police did not report any external injuries.  Gopolan was initially identified as transgender, reports which proved false.

The Washington Post reported Gopolan was a researcher at the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland.  The paper also said Gopolan had been involved in productions of the former Washington Shakespeare Company.
