The heat wave that has sweltered the D.C. area this week is finally coming to an end, but rain and storms are on the horizon.
The heat index hit the 105 degree mark for the second day in a row in some parts of the D.C. area Thursday.
Early Thursday evening temperatures ranged from the low to mid 90s in D.C. and surrounding suburbs, but the humidity brought the heat up a few notches.
About 5:45 p.m., Leesburg, Virginia, felt like 105 degrees, Gaithersburg, Maryland, felt like 100 and D.C. felt like 99.
Friday will still feel a bit steamy, with a high of 85 degrees and a heat index around 90 -- but it still beats that scorching 105. Storm Team4 says to expect clouds, scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon and evening.
That will be followed by a substantial cooldown for the weekend. Showers are in the forecast, with temperatures expected to be in the mid 70s.
