A cyclist died Friday night after being hit by two different cars in Southeast Washington.

David Haywood Williams, 42, was riding along the 1400 block of Southern Ave., SE around 10:45 p.m., when a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban hit him.

The driver of the Suburban told Metro police that he didn’t realize that he hit anyone at first.  He later returned to the scene.

Before Williams could be helped by bystanders, another passing vehicle hit him.

People who saw the accident called 911.  When paramedics arrived, the second vehicle raced from the scene.  Police are searching for that car described as a dark blue compact car that appears to be either a Toyota or a Nissan.

Williams was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
