Tangherlini moves from overseeing billions in budget cuts to Obama's Treasury

WASHINGTON -- D.C. City Administrator Dan Tangherlini -- the top appointed official in city government -- is resigning and will take a job in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, sources told News4.
Mayor Adrian Fenty is appointing Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Neil Albert to replace Tangherlini, the sources said.
Fenty held a news conference Friday afternoon to announce the Tangherlini-Albert change. President Barack Obama's administration is expected to announce Tangherlini's new Treasury job. He is slated to be nominated as the assistant secretary for management, chief financial officer and chief performance officer at the Treasury Department.
Tangherlini has served as city administrator since Fenty took office in January 2007. Before that he was general manager of Metro and director of the D.C. Transportation Department.
As city administrator, Tangherlini has overseen massive spending cuts totaling more than $1 billion.
