Brentwood Mayor Evicted

The Mayor of Brentwood, Xzavier Montgomery-Wright, was evicted on Wednesday from her rented home by the Prince George’s County Sheriff department.

As rain fell, her furniture and other belongings were brought out to the front yard. She got a moving truck and received help loading it up.

The house on 37th Place in Brentwood is owned by Earl Lowe. His son, Earl Lowe, Jr. says, "In the two years time  there’s been repetitive failure to pay rents with the Prince George's County Courts. We’ve had scheduled three evictions.  She’s paid on two evictions.  This eviction here she did not pay. (This time) It didn’t matter if she paid or not, she was being evicted."

This isn’t the only financial problem facing the mayor.

Council member Aneeka Harrison asked the Mayor to step down for allegedly using an unauthorized debit card to pay personal expenses with town funds. "And I think  the total credit card bill was over $7500, and then the plane ticket was a little over $350. But there are also 48 other questionable charges that we are looking at, and are having a special auditor going through that."

Montgomery-Wright did not leave office, and has not repaid the town for the charges.

In fact, she is running for a second term, in the election scheduled for May 2.

Council member Harrison says. "I hear resident that are saying to me they are appalled that the Council has not taken any action against her . And they say it’s the 'audacity' to actually run for reelection in the town after what she’s done."
