Bowie H.S. Student Charged With Arson

Prince George's fire officials say a blaze that caused Bowie High School to be evacuated Monday was started by a student.

Firefighters responded to reports of smoke pouring out of a second-story bathroom at the school on March 7.

Emergency personnel cleared the ventilation system and hallways of smoke.  Investigators said $500 of damage was caused.

A 15-year-old was taken into custody on the scene and charged with 1st and 2nd degree arson, as well as reckless endangerment.  The student was released into the custody of his parents.

The name of the suspect has not been released because he is a minor.
