Here's Which DC Bars Are Open Early for Mueller's Testimony

The offerings include Moscow Muellers and "It’s Mueller Time" coozies

What's more D.C. than waking up early to go to a bar to watch a congressional hearing?

True to the District's character, a number of bars have special plans Wednesday to screen former special counsel Robert Mueller's testimony before the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee.

Here's a sampling of scheduled viewing events.

Shaw’s Tavern
520 Florida Ave. NW

This bar at the corner of 6th Street and Florida Avenue NW was set to open at 8 a.m. for the start of Mueller's testimony, according to their Facebook page. Both of the bar's floors are open, all the TVs will have the sound on, and there will be breakfast and lunch specials. Bar service starts at 11 a.m. Seating is first come, first served. Shaw's has previously hosted watch parties for everything from RuPaul's Drag Race to the first round of Democratic debates to the 2016 election.

Duffy’s Irish Pub
1016 H St. NE

It’s Mueller Time, and this H Street bar will have eight flat-screen TVs with a "Stadium Sound System." A full menu with drink specials was available starting at 8 a.m., and according to the Facebook page for the event, "creative attire" is encouraged. The Irish bar has also hosted watch parties for political events such as the 2018 election, the most recent State of the Union and the Kavanaugh hearing.

Union Pub
201 Massachusetts Ave. NE

The Capitol Hill bar was opening as early as they are allowed given their operating license, which means visitors were welcome starting at 9 a.m. The Mueller hearing will be on all TVs with sound, a representative told News4, and full bar and kitchen service will be available. Specials for “Robert Mueller’s Day on Capitol Hill” include $6 “Moscow Muellers,” $4 for select rye whiskeys and lager drafts and $4.45 rail drinks.

The bar offered patrons a free round of drinks every time Trump tweeted about James Comey during the former FBI director's testimony, but unfortunately, they don't seem to be repeating that offer.

The Midlands
333 Georgia Ave. NW

The Georgia Avenue beer garden was set to be open early, at 8:30 a.m., to serve nitro cold brew, juices and hibiscus tea. A representative told News4 that they are doing a custom "It's Mueller Time" coozie giveaway. Guests are welcome to bring in outside food before the kitchen opens at 2 p.m. The Midlands also is set to show the next round of Democratic debates on July 30 and 31.

Hawk 'n' Dove
329 Pennsylvania Ave. SE

This Capitol Hill staple has served many political figures in its lifetime, and this Wednesday it was set to open at 8:30 a.m. so patrons can watch Mueller's back-to-back testimonies. They will be serving brunch until 3 p.m., along with their lunch menu, and the special of the day is the "Bloody Mueller," according to a spokeswoman. The bar previously hosted watch parties for the State of the Union and Comey's testimony.
