Severe thunderstorms moved through the D.C. area Monday afternoon and evening, and Storm Team4 declared a Weather Alert Day.
Several severe thunderstorm warnings and a watch have expired or been canceled, but rain continues falling.
Temperatures climbed to nearly 90 in the afternoon before the thunderstorms developed. Damaging winds and heavy rains that could lead to flash flooding were the main threats. Showers could linger overnight.
The storms and showers forced the postphonement of the Washington Nationals game.
The D.C. area will continue to have high chances of afternoon thunderstorms over the next several days.
Tuesday will also be mostly cloudy, with a high chance for rain. The added clouds will keep Tuesday afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 80s, and that slightly cooler air will help to reduce the risk of severe weather Tuesday afternoon.
This rainy pattern will continue into Wednesday, with highs in the mid 80s and another likelihood of rain and thunder. An area of high pressure moving out of the Great Lakes will push a cold front through the area on Thursday afternoon. This means that rain and storm chances are expected once again, with highs in the mid/upper 80s.

With any luck, that area of high pressure will keep us dry on Friday and Saturday, with highs in the mid 80s both days. Sunday will start dry, but there will be a chance of storms by later in the afternoon.
