Animal control officers in Virginia fielded an unusual call on Wednesday - reports of an alligator behind an industrial park.
Lt. David Squires, together with a curator from the Virginia Aquarium, fished out a 3-foot cayman alligator from a lake behind an industrial area in Virginia Beach, the Virginia-Pilot reported.
The officer shined a flashlight at the gator to distract the animal, while the aquarium curator corralled it with a pole into a kennel.
A spokesperson for the aquarium told the paper that this type of cayman is a native of South America. The animal was likely a pet let loose after it grew too big.
The alligator will now make its home at in Virginia Aquarium's Marsh Pavilion. Callers told authorities there may have been a second gator in the lake, but officers were not able to find one.
