D.C. hasn't exactly been winning any awards for its affordability -- but now a new study claims it's one of the most expensive areas in the entire country.

    We know, you're completely shocked.

The new study by the Council for Community and Economic Research shows the D.C. area is the ninth most expensive place in the United States.

The cost of housing is the biggest reason, plus the cost of transportation, health care and other consumer goods.

New York had three of the top nine areas, including the top two in Manhattan and Brooklyn. And paradise will cost you a bundle: Honolulu ranked fourth on the list.
