Now a Maryland elementary school principal is apologizing for asking students to bring knives to school.

The school sent home letters for parents, listing items that students could bring to make care packages that would be sent to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Emmitsburg Elementary School Principal Kathryn Golightly told The Frederick News-Post that the school's Parent Teacher Association compiled a list of items, and knives was on it.

Golightly said she should have read the list more carefully before distributing it because Frederick County Public Schools policy prohibits students from having weapons of any kind on school property.
