Trains single-tracked for a time Friday between the Cleveland Park and Friendship Heights Metro stations after a man was struck by a Metro train at the Van Ness-UDC Metro Station.

The man was on the tracks intentionally when he was hit by a Shady Grove-bound train at about 12:30 p.m., witnesses said. He was removed from underneath the train and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Red Line riders experienced delays in both directions while police and Metro investigated.

Normal service, which is a relative term since the fatal June 22 crash, was reestablished a couple of hours later.
