Critics urge Metro riders to refuse to participate in random searches of bags.

Many people are angry about Metro's new policy of random bag searches. It's not in response to any specific threat, but it's trying to deter terrorist attacks.

The searches are intrusive, according to critics. They're urging riders to refuse to participate if they're randomly selected.

The group "Flex Your Rights" has put together what it calls a citizen's guide to refusing Metro searches on its Web site.  You can find that guide and download it here:  http://www.flexyourrights.org/subway.

  • Redtopp Friday, Dec 5 at 12:58 PM FLAG COMMENT Today a bag search...tomorrow pat-downs...hmmmm where's that station again? lolololol It's always something; i don't kmow who sits around smoking whatever and comes up with these stupid ideas; if a terorist wanted to blow up our subway, they'd do it with or without bag searches! They need to crack down on some of those unruly teenagers and drunks hanging around and sleeping and begging... that's more apt to bother riders tha ... MORE >

I suppose there are some that really believe these would be random -- but so far their prosecution of people eating and drinking, or cursing in they system, has been t ... MORE >
  • Mondrian Friday, Nov 7 at 10:25 AM FLAG COMMENT As a frequent visitor from Philadelphia, I tend to get off at Shady Grove to meet my friends for the weekend. Until the enforcement of the bag search, I've always felt safe on the Metro--way safer than on the SEPTA (Philly's Metro). I don't even do drugs; yet, I feel scared just thinking about going on the Metro!
  • LINDSAY Sunday, Nov 2 at 3:31 PM FLAG COMMENT Why don't we just allow security cameras in our homes, and metal detectors in our grocery stores? How about teachers teaching behind glass for protection, and randomized citizen drug tests to keep drugs off the street? I don't know about you, but I LOVE showing Big Brother, how I am an AMAZING american just to keep them off my back. GIVE ME A FRIGGIN BREAK!
