Crews Rescue Bald Eagle From Near Metro Station

An American bald eagle is resting comfortably after being found injured near a Metro station in Alexandria.

The eagle was trapped inside a fence Saturday afternoon near the Van Dorn Street station on the Blue Line. Crews had been monitoring the animal since a concerned citizen reported its location to Metro earlier this week.

For a short time, the Blue Line single-tracked trains while crews used an out-of-service train to access and rescue the eagle, which was stabilized and taken to the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia facility in Falls Church.

At last report, the eagle was being treated for a broken wing. It is not known how the eagle sustained its injury or how it came to be entangled in the fence.
