A Maryland man died after his car flipped over in Damascus Wednesday morning.

He has been identified as Adam Joseph Gaudreau, 48, of Mount Airy.

Officials say his car drifted off the roadway near Laytonsville Road at Hipsley Mill Road, struck a large tree, and rolled over before coming to rest alongside a fence.

Gaudreau had to be extricated from the car. He was airlifted to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma, where he later died.

The cause of the accident remains unknown.
