Crash on Ramp from Beltway Ramp to I-95 Kills Three

Virginia State Police are investigating a crash between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer on the ramp from the Capital Beltway ramp to I-95 that left three people dead and the ramp closed.

At about 7 p.m. Thursday, a tractor-trailer was stopped in the travel lanes when it was rear-ended by a pickup truck. Three people in the truck were killed. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unhurt.

Police released the names of the deceased on Friday morning: Driver Peter Stesney Jr., 87, of Allentown, Pa.; passengers Bernice Supinski, 85, of Bath, Pa. and Laura Kordelski, 51, of Allentown, Pa. Police say they were related and heading to Florida for the funeral of a family member.

The ramp is expected to be closed for some time as the investigation continues. The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was also responding to the scene.

Traffic is being diverted to the new ramp from I-495 to southbound I-95 HOV lanes, but state police warned to expect delays in the area.
