The chief prosecutor in Prince George's County is considering a run for Congress.

State's Attorney Glenn Ivey said Wednesday he is forming an exploratory committee for a possible run against U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards in the Democratic primary next year.

Ivey has ruled out a run for a third term as state's attorney or a run at county executive, according to the Washington Post.

"It's up or out," he said.

Ivey is a former Capitol Hill staffer and says it would be an exciting time to return to Washington, with the Democrats in control. He said his major focus would be on education and public safety.

Edwards was first elected in 2008. The district includes parts of Prince George's and Montgomery counties.
