David Berry, Contractor Working for Northern Virginia-Based Firm Killed in Libyan Hotel Attack

An American security contractor working for a Northern Virginia-based consulting firm was among the nine people killed during an attack on a Libyan hotel Tuesday.

Guests fled the waterfront Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli after the attack began shortly after 9 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET). A car bomb later exploded nearby.

The Associated Press reports four foreigners and five guards were killed. Among those was David Berry, an American contractor who had worked with Fredericksburg-based Crucible LLC.

The company's CEO sent out a statement Tuesday saying, "Today our company was a victim of a terrorist attack. Our company mourns this extraordinary loss with his family and friends."

It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack but the SITE monitoring service reported a militant group claiming affiliation with ISIS had claimed responsibility.
