Construction Cleared For Memorial Day Travelers

Virginia, Maryland halting road projects for the weekend

Good news if you plan on traveling this Memorial Day weekend.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is lifting all highway lane restrictions for this weekend only.

Starting at noon Friday and until noon Tuesday, VDOT will open travel lanes that were temporarily closed due to construction or maintenance work. Construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place.

Maryland is also planning on halting some of its construction projects for the weekend.

AAA Mid-Atlantic is projecting that more than 32.1 million travelers nationwide will take a trip for the holiday weekend, according to Gazette.net. That’s up 5.4 percent from last year.
