Community, Capitals Rally Around Boy Critically Injured in Sledding Accident

Prayers of support and well-wishes are pouring in for a 6-year-old boy critically injured in a sledding accident in McLean, Virginia, two weeks ago.

Bensten was sledding on a steep driveway in the 7000 block of Matthew Mills Road, across the street from his home, when he slid into a passing car. The driver, a 65-year-old McLean resident, immediately got out to help the boy, who was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

A family friend told News4 the boy fractured his skull and had some swelling to his brain. He was induced into a coma.

Red ribbons now adorn trees in his neighborhood. His story spread through social media when his family posted the hashtag #Pray4Bman.

On Facebook, his mother said he's out of a medically induced coma and will soon head to a rehab hospital in D.C.

The boy is a huge Washington Capitals fan, so the team made a video to wish him well.
