College Park Water Main Breaks

A 24-inch water main line broke Saturday morning in College Park, stranding some customers without water.

A Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission spokesman said the main broke between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday at 5555 Branchville Road in College Park. He said several restaurants and businesses in the areas would be without water until sometime Sunday.

Repairs require specialized equipment to do a deep dig to the break and will take about 12 to 16 hours to complete. They plan to turn off the water at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon to start repairs.

The Beltway Plaza Mall reported their water was shut off for a brief period of time, but the water is flowing and all businesses are open.
