StormTeam4: Brace Yourself for ‘Downright Dangerous' Cold

Bundle up if you're heading out into the bone-chilling cold.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to be "downright dangerous" and a few inches of snow is likely Monday, Storm Team4's Doug Kammerer said.

The frigid weather is expected to stick around for the rest of the weekend, when the D.C. area will be the coldest it's been since last February, possibly reaching a record.

The temperature Saturday is expected to be as cold as 18 degrees, with the wind chill factor making it feel like single-digit weather for the most of the day. Winds may gust as high as 50 mph.

It's expected to be even colder on Sunday -- Valentine's Day -- with a low of 12 degrees.

There's an 80 percent chance of snow Monday, when it likely will get warmer.

Then, there's an 80 percent chance of rain, and possibly ice, on Tuesday.

A winter weather advisory was in effect in the D.C. area until midnight Friday. Some areas saw snow flurries.

Officials are asking drivers to drive cautiously and, if possible, take public transportation.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered full deployment of the District's snow plows in advance of the possible snow. Crews pretreating roads early Friday as a precaution, LaToya Foster, a spokeswoman for Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Foster said officials want to make sure the roads are safe.

Residents and business owners are being asked to treat sidewalks around their properties to reduce the possibility of icing.

Virginia's Department of Transportation said in a news release Friday morning that crews are ready to deploy to treat icy patches with salt and sand.

The weather may affect participants in Saturday's Cupid's Undie Run, which is set to start at 2 p.m. Participants in the Undie Run take to the streets in what organizers call their "bedroom best" to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation.
