Man Accused of Stealing Chicken Wings, Biting Security Guard at Silver Spring Mall

Police say Michael K. Ray, 50, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol

A 50-year-old man is accused of stealing a bag of chicken wings and biting a security guard who confronted him at a Silver Spring mall.

Montgomery County Police say Michael K. Ray, 50, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when he grabbed a bag of chicken wings from a closed restaurant, jumped over a counter and tried to flee.

A security guard patrolling the food court of City Place Mall in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, spotted a man behind the counter inside the Brass Hen Restaurant at around 9:35 p.m. Monday.

When the guard confronted the man, he tried to escape with the bag of wings, police said.

A second security guard went to help the first in detaining Ray, who then bit the first officer in the upper-arm area, police said.

Police say Ray then fled from the mall, but another officer looking for the suspect saw him walking north on Colesville Road and took him into custody. During questioning, Ray admitted to taking the food and biting the security guard, police said.

Ray is charged with second-degree burglary, theft and second-degree assault.
