Police: Mother Fought With Officer

Woman confronted officers after children found alone in apartment building

A D.C. woman was charged with assaulting a police officer after authorities allegedly found her children wandering the hallways of an apartment building in Southeast.

One child is 2 years old. The other is 16-months.

Police said they searched several apartments at the Stanton Glen apartment complex on Stanton Road Wednesday morning in an attempt to find the parents of a 2-year-old and a 16-month-old. They could not find the parents, but just as they were taking the children away, the mother showed up, police said.

The woman allegedly got into an altercation with the officers and was arrested for assault. She could face additional charges.

The children were taken to a hospital for observation.
