A 4-year-old child was shot in the back by another child in Temple Hills, Md., Thursday.

The 4-year-old was playing at a playground in the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway. A 5-year-old somehow obtained a gun. It went off, hitting the 4-year-old in the upper back and shoulder area, police said.

The 5-year-old ran into an apartment building, where police found the gun.

"We're trying to figure out how a 5-year-old had a gun," Prince George's County police Cpl. Mike Rodriguez said.

The victim was taken to Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
