Two people, including a 4-year-old child, are in the hospital after a shooting in Washington, DC.

Police say it happened on the 1200 block of Savannah Place Southeast shortly after 8 p.m. Police say a gunman was shooting at a man who ran up to the house. The man was struck in the leg. Police also say a stray bullet went through the front door of the apartment and struck a 4-year-old child in the hand. Both victims were taken to the hospital. Police have not yet revealed their conditions.

The boy's grandfather told NBC4 the boy was playing with several other children when the shots were fired. Police don't believe the man who was shot had any connection to the home where the shooting happened.

Officials continue to investigate the incident.
