Child Falls From Sugarloaf Mountain

A 10-year-old boy fell from a cliff while hiking with his family on Sugarloaf Mountain in Frederick County, Md., Thursday afternoon.

His father also fell while trying to retrieve the boy, who fell about 30 feet.

Both are in stable condition. None of the injuries -- bumps, bruises and possibly broken bones -- appears to be life-threatening.

Thirty firefighters from Frederick and Montgomery counties responded, including a technical rescue team.

The boy was airlifted to Children's Hospital in D.C.; his father to Washington Hospital Center.

Sugarloaf Mountain is on the Frederick-Montgomery County line near the unincorporated community of Stronghold.
