Applegate Chicken Nuggets Recalled for Pieces of Plastic

Perdue received several complaints about small pieces of plastic found in the product.

Perdue is recalling over 15,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets after it was found that they may contain pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said.

The recall on 30,468, 8-oz. boxes of "Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets" was announced Tuesday. The affected boxes were produced on Feb. 5, 2014, have a "best before" date of "02/05/15" and the  establishment number "P2617."

Applegate says the nuggets were sold locally at Giant, Safeway and Whole Foods stores.

The problem was discovered after Perdue received several complaints about small pieces of plastic being found in the product. There have been no reported injuries.

The company pulled the product from shelves on Aug. 8, but since it is a frozen product, there's concern that some customers may still have it in their possession.
