“Chicago Fire” star Joe Minoso and News4's Aaron Gilchrist are set to emcee the 2015 World Police and Fire Games opening ceremony in D.C. later this month.

Minoso will lead the opening ceremony on June 26 at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. The ceremony will include a parade of athletes, the lighting of the torch and a musical celebration. The event is open to the public.

The Games will last from June 26 until July 5 and take place in venues throughout the region. Police officers, firefighters and customs and correction officers from around the world will compete in Olympic-style events ranging from football, baseball and hockey to archery, CrossFit and wrist wrestling.

WPFG estimates that between 15,000 and 30,000 visitors will flock to our area as the Host City, providing a boost to local economies and tourism.

The Games take place biennially. They’re set to travel to Montreal in 2017 and China in 2019.
