Chemical Leak Keeps Residents Inside Homes in Anne Arundel Co.

Residents in a Maryland City, Md., neighborhood are being told to stay indoors with their air conditioning off after a sulfuric acid leak was discovered.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Russ Davies said a trailer was making a delivery of the chemical in the 3500 block of Whiskey Bottom Road when the driver spotted the leak. He said the leak was confined to the location.

Approximately 536 residents are being told to shelter in place while hazmat crews attempt to clean up the spill. The order affects those people living on Woodland Manor Drive, Woodland Hills, Claymont Street, and Marcey Creek Road.

Davies said Clean Harbors Environmental is working to clean up the chemical.
