A Catholic University student was beaten and robbed Monday, with the assailant searching the victim's car as she lay injured on the ground.

The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Lawrence St. NE.

The student was getting out of her car when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head against the car.

The man continued assaulting her, grabbing her cell phone and car keys, then taking her cash and debit card from the vehicle.

He was last seen running toward the Brookland/CUA Metro station.

The suspect was described as a black male in his mid-20s with an average build, about 5'7" tall. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, jean shorts, Timberland boots and gloves.
