Cash-for-Carpool Program Expanding

A program that pays people to carpool is expanding from 100 people to more than 700, WTOP reported.

The Commuter Connections program called "Pool Rewards" began last year and pays people $2 a day to carpool in the D.C. region.

The program began with 100 people, and 95 of them continued to carpool after they reached the maximum total reward of $130.

Program director Nicholas Ramfos said the cash motivated people but that they learned they could also save time by using the HOV lanes as well as saving money on gas.
