Dear D.C.-area bosses:  Please be kind to your employees if they arrive late today.  It's not their fault, you see.  Traffic on the Beltway was a mess.

Don't believe us? Check out the video above.  It's a car fire that shut down all lanes of the Beltway's Outer Loop at the heart of the Tuesday morning rush hour.

The fire was westbound between New Hampshire Avenue and University Boulevard in Langley Park.

A fire truck arrived on the scene just before 7 a.m. to extinguish the flames.  All lanes had re-opened by 7:30 a.m.

The driver of the car, who WTOP reported as John Page, 20, of North Beach, was not injured.  He told the radio station that he turned on the heat and felt flames shooting out his air vents.

"I threw it in park and got the hell out of there," Page told WTOP.

No injuries were reported.  It was not immediately known what started the fire.
