Capital Bike Share Expanding in Va.

Four new stations to be added

Arlington County will add four new Capital Bikeshare stations this week, making it easier for bicycle borrowers to move throughout the Rosslyn and Courthouse areas.

Capital Bikeshare launched in 2010. The partnership between the DC Department of Transportation and Arlington County allows any paying member to take a bike, ride it for a period of time, and return it to any station in the system.

According to a release from Arlington County, the four stations opening Wednesday are located where they will expand transit options, enhance tourism, and provide greater convenience for bicyclists. They include:

- North Lynn Street and 19th Street in Rosslyn
- Wilson Boulevard and North Fort Myer Drive in Rosslyn
- North Pierce Street and Clarendon Boulevard in Rosslyn
- 15th Street and North Uhle Street in Courthouse

The new stations are part of a phased expansion in 2011 that will add 30 stations and approximately 200 bikes to the overall system in VA and DC, officials said.

In its first six months of operation, Capital Bikeshare registered approximately 250,000 trips. There are 1,100 bicycles and more than 110 stations in the program.
