Beltway riders beware!
Starting Friday, August 5th, there will be major closures on the Capital Beltway (I-95/495) and Telegraph Road, says the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project.
Officials from the project say they are advising motorists to seek alternate routes in order to avoid delays and will also be providing signs with detour routes.
The closures will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, but there will be additional daytime ramp closures starting on Monday and lasting until Thursday, according to the project.
The closures/detours according to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project:
Friday, August 5 at 9 p.m. until Monday, August 8 at 5 a.m.:
There will be lane closures on the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) between
Telegraph Road and the Eisenhower Connector to lay asphalt. The first (left) lane will close at 9 p.m. Friday; and a second (middle) lane will close at 11 p.m. One (right) lane will remain open. At 5 a.m. Saturday, the middle lane will reopen, allowing two lanes of traffic. All three lanes of traffic will be restored by Monday morning at 5 a.m. Significant Inner Loop delays are expected next weekend.
MAJOR TELEGRAPH ROAD AND RAMP CLOSURES
Friday, August 5 at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday morning, August 8:
Telegraph Road southbound and northbound will be completely closed for road construction and girder placement. Significant delays are expected and motorists should avoid the area. Telegraph Road South will be closed from Duke Street to Huntington Avenue. Telegraph Road North will be closed from just after the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue to Duke Street. This work has the following impacts:
Telegraph Road South:
- Traffic will not be able to exit from Duke Street onto Telegraph Road South during this time.
· Detour for westbound motorists: Continue on Duke Street to Van Dorn South to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) to Telegraph Road South.
· Detour for eastbound motorists: Continue on Duke Street to U.S. Route 1 South to right on Huntington Avenue to Telegraph Road South.
- Southbound motorists in the Eisenhower Valley should take Eisenhower Avenue East to the traffic circle to Holland Avenue to Duke Street East to U.S. Route 1 South to right on Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.
- Access from Mill Road to the Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) will be closed.
· Detour: Take Eisenhower Avenue west to the Eisenhower Connector to the Inner Loop.
· The on-ramps from southbound Telegraph Road to the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) and Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed.
· Detours: Motorists in the Eisenhower Valley should take Eisenhower Avenue West to access the Beltway at the Eisenhower Connector.
· The Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) exit to Telegraph Road South will be closed.
· Detour: Continue on the Inner Loop to Van Dorn to Franconia Road East to Telegraph Road. Or for motorists coming from Maryland, take the exit for U.S. Route 1 South to right on Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.
Telegraph Road North:
- Motorists headed North to Duke Street should take the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue and turn right to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
- Access from Pershing Avenue to Telegraph Road North/Duke Street will be closed (and remain closed for approximately two months).
· Detour: Motorists should take Stovall Street North to right on Mill Road to left on Eisenhower Avenue to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
· The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed.
· Detour: Motorists should take Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 North to the Outer Loop.
- The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) will be closed.
· Detour: Motorists should take the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue and turn left to the Eisenhower Connector to the Inner Loop.
- The ramp from the Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) to Telegraph Road North/Duke Street will be
closed.
· Detour: Motorists should take the exit for Pershing Avenue and make a right on Stovall Street to left on Eisenhower Avenue to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
- The ramp from the Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) to Telegraph Road North/Duke Street will be closed.
· Detour: Motorists should continue on the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue. Make a right on Eisenhower to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
The Project will also be conducting daytime closures of the ramps from Telegraph Road North and South to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop beginning Monday, August 8 through Thursday, August 11.
Monday, August 8 through Thursday, August 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily:
-The ramp from Telegraph Road South to the Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed for roadway construction.
· Detour: Motorists should take the ramp to Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 North to the Outer Loop.
- The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed for roadway construction.
· Detour: Motorists should continue to Duke Street East to U.S. Route 1 South to the on-ramp to the Outer Loop.
