A California man dragged by a bus Monday night has died, InsideNova.Com reported.

Jose Chavez, 18, became trapped under the bus before being dragged down a street, Prince William County police said. He was crossing the intersection of Gideon Drive and Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge Monday night when the Provost Coach Bus hit him and dragged him for about 50 feet.

Chavez recently moved to the area to live with relatives and start a new life for himself because of economic hard times in California, his family told InsideNova.com.

The bus driver was identified as a 48-year-old woman from Florida.

Police are investigating the incident.
