Bye Bye Bethesda Trolleys

For those who like public transportation that isn't broken, some good news: Bethesda has replaced its trolley line.

The old trolley design closed out its breakdown-plagued service on Sunday.

In its place, a new system called the Bethesda Circulator, featuring plush new seats.  The vehicle is also supposed to be easier to maintain than the older trolley.  In an interview with Gazette.net, Stephanie Coppula, Bethesda Urban Partnership’s spokeswoman said, “It’s a new, clean design. It’s really modern.”

Yesterday the three buses made its inaugural ride through the 2.1 mile area downtown.

The Bethesda Circulator, like the trolley before it, will carry 29 people, and the cost will stay the same - free.
