Bus Crashes Into KFC in Silver Spring

A Ride-On bus crashed through the front wall of a KFC restaurant Friday morning in Silver Spring, Md., ending up just inside the dining area.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. in the 12400 block of Georgia Avenue.  While attempting a left turn on to Georgia Avenue from the Metro parking lot, the bus crossed the median and all lanes of Georgia Avenue before slamming into the front of the KFC.

There were three passengers on the bus. Two people were transported to a local hospital, a 73-year-old woman and the bus driver.

Police believe the 54-year-old driver, Andrew Tom Kamara, may have suffered a medical emergency and lost control. The crash remains under investigation, however.

The restaurant was not open at the time of the crash, but the manager was in the back of the restaurant.

The restaurant will not open today. Officials said the damage to the building was minor, but a building inspector deemed it unsafe.
