Brown Picks Up AFL-CIO Endorsement

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown has picked up a key union endorsement in the race for governor.

Brown and his running mate, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman, were endorsed Saturday by the Maryland-DC Council of the AFL-CIO, which represents about 296,000 workers in the state.

Brown is running in the Democratic primary to succeed Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is term-limited. Also running in the heavily Democratic state are Attorney General Doug Gansler and state Del. Heather Mizeur.

Much of the state's Democratic establishment has endorsed Brown, including O'Malley, Sen. Barbara Mikulski and the leaders of the state Senate and House.

Maryland and D.C. AFL-CIO president Fred Mason calls Brown "a proven fighter for Maryland's hard-working families." Brown says he's humbled to receive the endorsement.
