Brandon Paulin is a 19-year-old college student

Next week, Maryland officials will swear in the youngest mayor ever in the state: a 19-year-old college student.

Brandon Paulin won Tuesday's mayoral election in the town of Indian Head with 239 of the 383 votes cast. He's a student at the College of Southern Maryland.

Paulin and the two other members of the town council will be sworn in next Tuesday.

"I am delighted whenever young people get involved in their communities and government," said Commissioner President Peter F. Murphy in a release.

The town of Indian Head had a population of 3,844 in the 2010 U.S. Census, according to town officials.
