Alexandria Police have charged a driver with DUI manslaughter and three other counts stemming from a crash Sunday.
Victor M. Aldana, 22, has also been charged with DUI maiming, reckless driving, and driving without a license. He is being held without bond.
Police said Aldana was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound on Duke Street near the overpass to I-395 when he lost control of the car.
The car ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a 31-year-old woman and her son, Brian Hernandez-Chavez, 8, of the Lincolnia area.
The boy died at the scene. His mother was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Aldana was not injured.
This is the first fatal pedestrian crash of 2012 in Alexandria, police said.
