3-Year-Old Killed in Maryland Crash

Anne Arundel police say only two people had on seatbelts.

Authorities say speed and reckless driving led to a crash that killed a 3-year-old boy and injured others in Hanover, Md.

Anne Arundel County police said a 16-year-old was driving a Plymouth Acclaim packed with friends and relatives on Ridge Road at about 8 p.m. Wednesday when he crashed into a tree near Furnace Avenue. The toddler was not in a car seat at the time.

The driver was hospitalized in fair condition Thursday.  An 18-year-old male who had been in the front seat was in serious condition. An 18-year-old female, who had been holding the child in her lap, was in critical condition. Her 17-year-old sister was in serious condition.

Prosecutors are reviewing the case to determine possible charges. Police say only two people in the car were wearing seat belts.
