Bond Hearing Set for Teacher Accused of Having Sexual Relationship With Student

A bond hearing will be held Thursday morning for a Stafford County teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with one of her students.

Erica Mesa, a geometry teacher and volleyball coach at Colonial Forge High School, was charged with three counts each of custodian indecent liberties and solicitation of a minor using a computer device.

School administrators received an anonymous phone call about a sexual relationship that Mesa, 27, allegedly had with a male student in February, May and September 2014. School officials say the allegations were also posted on a social media site.

The sheriff's office, school superintendent's office and child protective services were called in to investigate, and it was determined that the boy was 16 when the alleged relationship began.

Investigators say Mesa also sent nude photos of herself to the teen.

According to The Free Lance-Star, Mesa may have had inappropriate relationships with at least four students since 2012. Police say the investigation into those allegations is ongoing.

Mesa has been with the school district since 2009 and has worked at Colonial Forge during that entire time span. A Stafford County Public Schools spokesperson says Mesa had no prior disciplinary problems. Her husband is also a teacher at Colonial Forge, the spokesperson added.

Mesa has been placed on administrative leave.
