Dead Child Found in Trunk in Calvert County

Police are investigating this case as a homicide

The body of a newborn, stillborn or fetus was found in the trunk of a car Thursday night in Prince Frederick, Md.

The car was parked on the 5400 block of Hallowing Point Road. The parents of the 32-year-old woman who owns that car were cleaning out the trunk about 6:30 p.m. when they found the body in the trunk, authorities said.

Police believe the owner of the car is the mother. They do not yet know if a crime has been committed, but they are investigating it as a homicide.

The body is at the Medical Examiner's Office. Because of the decomposition, final results may not be available until next month.

“Our hearts go out to the family members that located this infant in the trunk of this vehicle. This is heart wrenching for our community and heart wrenching for law enforcement, “said Calvert County Lt. Steve Jones.

The Calvert Investigative Team -- comprised of members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police and the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office -- are investigating.

The owner of the car has three children, who have been placed in the custody of others. She is receiving care, as well.
