Body of Missing Boater Found in Choptank River

Todd Heaton, 32, was boating when he jumped into the water to cool off and didn't resurface, authorities said

Maryland Natural Resources Police say the body of a boater who went missing on the Choptank River has been found.

The body of 32-year-old Todd Heaton of Greensboro, Md., was found on Wednesday in the river near Harmony in Caroline County, police told the Easton Star-Democrat.

Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Albert says Heaton and another man were fishing Saturday on the Choptank River and Heaton jumped into the water to cool off. He says a witness called for help when Heaton didn't resurface. Searchers did not find his body immediately and dive teams remained at the river continuing the search for several days.

Albert says Heaton's body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
